Sérgio Mendes Concert!

Olá!
For those of you who are following us on Twitter, you probably already know that we recently went to a Sérgio Mendes concert! We wanted to write more about this show now!
We went to Sérgio Mendes' concert at the Nokia Club in Downtown LA! Our manager, Adam Peck, surprised us with tickets. It was A-M-A-Z-I-N-G in every sense of the word!
Sérgio Mendes is a Brazilian musician / songwriter / singer that not only writes wonderful music, but also brings incredible arrangements to many of the biggest Brazilian songs!
After almost 6 years away from our beloved country Brazil, you can imagine how excited we get when we can feel close to any little piece of our culture. And when that happens to be someone or something we LOVE, it makes us even happier! That's exactly what happened this past weekend!
We couldn't wait till the crowd of around 2000 people stood up and started dancing... LOL, which luckily for us happened halfway through the concert! We could then finally stand up and dance to all the songs we grew up with and it felt very good! Memories from home instantly came back and we couldn't avoid having huge smiles on our faces!
The entire night was great. From Sérgio Mendes, to all the musicians, singers and the guest rapper. The rapper, H20, appeared for many of the songs and fit very well with his melodic voice. We really enjoyed this mixture of Brazilian melodies and harmonies with American Rap and Hip Hop. This brought a lot of originality to all these Brazilian standards!
As you can see, we had a great time, which we'll remember forever! If anyone has the opportunity to go to this concert! Don't miss it! You'll definitely find some of our favorites Brazilian songs in it: "Só danço Samba - João Gilberto (you'll find a cover we made in our first album Choopeta)", "Berimbau - Vinícius de Moraes, Baden Powell, Ray Gilbert (we recorded an un-released version of this song written by the French songwriter / singer Claude Nougaro)", "Samba de uma nota só - João Gilberto", "Água de Beber - Vinícius de Moraes e Antônio Carlos Jobim (Tom Jobim)", "Magalenha - Carlinhos Brown (Carlito Marron)", and many many others!
If we had to give any critiques about the show, it would only be that the concert was a little too short. And we all left wishing for more!
So if you do decide to go, have fun! And if you can't make it, don't worry, that's what youtube is for! :D
Beijos!

Coincidences with 3T!

We finally got some of the photos from the photo shoot Taj took of us, as you can see above!
Speaking of Taj Jackson, we'll now explain to you a little bit on how we met and started collaborating together.
When our first album was first released in France, one of the songs was a duet with the music group 3T (the brothers Taj, TJ and Taryll Jackson). It was a cover from the famous group Chicago called "If You Leave Me Now". That's when we met!

Then all the strange coincidences came up:
  • We don't need to start by saying that they are three brothers and we are three sisters, right?
  • Also, all their names start with T, just like ours.
  • Two right handed and one left handed, just like us.
  • Their music group name "3T" was created by their mom, just like "T-Rio" was created by our mom.
  • Both our dads play guitar.
  • With 3T there's a 2 year difference between the first and the second child, and with us it's 2 minutes. Then, there's a 3 year difference between the second and the third child, while with us it's 3 minutes. Finally, there's a 5 year gap between the first and the last born, and a 5 minute gap for us.
  • They had a dog exactly the same age and breed as ours (for our sadness, both already passed away, but hopefully they are having fun together somewhere now)
  • The six of us have Latin origins and happen to be in the music business.
Since then a great friendship has grown in between us.
Today we are co-producing our new album together with Taj and have very similar tastes for everything, which make us very happy and glad to collaborate with him!

Coincidences with Allee Willis!

Two weeks ago we met a great personality/songwriter in the music business, Allee Willis. We visited her at her very happy, positive, and fun house. When we first got there, she gave us a nice tour of her home. It was amazing and we didn't know where to focus. Every corner was full of treasures, history, design... and candy (hmmm)... We started talking and it was funny how many coincidences we shared with her. The most incredible one was that we all have the same birthday!!! From that moment on, we were sure we would write music together. Allee's nickname is also the same as one of us and her favorite color is the same as another one of us. When we were talking to her about music, we also realized that our musical taste were very similar. It was incredible when we discovered that she is friends with a huge Brazilian singer/songwriter, Zelia Duncan(who we really enjoy).
Next week we'll see Allee again and we are very excited with this colaboration. Of course we already knew and loved her songwriting work from before! We can't wait to hear the results from our work together!!!
Now, believe it or not, it's not the first time a coincidence like this has happened to us. It also happened when we met the music group 3T. But we'll tell you all more about that in another opportunity.
Have you ever had coincidences like this with someone? Let us know...
