CARNIVAL!

This topic is in tribute to one of the biggest event of our country Brazil: The Carnival!
It happened a month and half ago. We wished we could have been there!
The carnival is SO loved in the entire world for its AMAZING and overflowing positive energy. Full of colors, dance and music (samba), the celebration passes through the Avenue of Sambodromo (where the Rio de Janeiro Carnival - the biggest - happens). No words can explain it! It reunites millions of people from all around the planet. It's one of our dreams to be a main part of this event one day!
The Carnival is so big in Brazil, that during the 4 days (or more) it takes place, it's very common that people skip work. Even though Carnival is not considered a National Holiday, many bosses give these days off to their employees. ( And probably to themselves as well :-). ) Now you wish you were brazilian, huh? Lol...
CARNAVAL! This word brings us so many different feelings because the carnival it's not just for the party and fun. Actually, there are many Schools of Carnival (over 20 of them. We don't know the exact number) that compete between them every year. Each school is responsible for performing a small play that is filmed and aired live on the huge worldwide brazilian channel: GLOBO. There are judges who pick which school has the best song, the best costumes, design, scenario, theme and a lot more. The most famous Carnival's spectacles are those from Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo. These schools, also generate a lot of jobs for people in the favelas (poor brazilian neighborhoods) giving them earnings for their families and themselves. So they can work for the Carnival the entire year, and in the end, be able to celebrate this giant and wonderful event: the Carnival!
So have anyone experienced the Carnival in Brasil already? And How was it?
If you didn't go, don't worry. Because Carnival in Brazil happens every year!
VIVA CARNAVAL!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

May God make your year a happy one!
Not by shielding you from all sorrows and pain,
But by strengthening you to bear it, as it comes;
Not by making your path easy,
But by making you sturdy to travel any path;
Not by taking hardships from you,
But by taking fear from your heart;
Not by granting you unbroken sunshine,
But by keeping your face bright even in the shadows;
Not by making your life always pleasant,
But by showing you when people and their causes need you most,
and by making you anxious to be there to help.
Love, peace, health, hope, success and joy to you for the year ahead.
Happy 2009

Christmas Lights!

Yippee! It's getting close to Christmas!!!

We always love this holiday because it brings the opportunity to reunite all our family together! And we can see everyone we maybe didn't get the chance to see during the year, because of work or any other reason!
This year unfortunately, we won't be able to spend this moment with our family because we are in different countries! :-(
Still, we had the opportunity to discover a little about the American Christmas tradition and we think it's great. We really enjoy seeing all those lit up houses in the neighborhood.
Recently, we visited a street called "Candy Light Lane or Candy Cane Lane". All of our friends were telling us that we had to see it, and they were right. Everyone on that street decorates their houses for Christmas each year! We heard that there's kind of a friendly competition between the neighbors for the coolest house! From what we saw, we can confirm to you guys that their efforts payed off... LOL One house was better than the next!
There was one house that was our favorite! You can see a pic here bellow of the winning house in our opinion! :-)

Well, we really wish each one of you reading this post (and also all those that wont read it... LOL) a WONDERFUL Christmas shared with your families, friends and loved ones! And that this New Year of 2009 will be full of joy, peace, achievements, health and everything good that this world can offer to us!
And never forget that the greatest happiness you can have comes from within!
Talk to you all soon!
P.S.: Sorry for the quality of the photos but they were taken by a cellphone.

Sérgio Mendes Concert!

Olá!
For those of you who are following us on Twitter, you probably already know that we recently went to a Sérgio Mendes concert! We wanted to write more about this show now!
We went to Sérgio Mendes' concert at the Nokia Club in Downtown LA! Our manager, Adam Peck, surprised us with tickets. It was A-M-A-Z-I-N-G in every sense of the word!
Sérgio Mendes is a Brazilian musician / songwriter / singer that not only writes wonderful music, but also brings incredible arrangements to many of the biggest Brazilian songs!
After almost 6 years away from our beloved country Brazil, you can imagine how excited we get when we can feel close to any little piece of our culture. And when that happens to be someone or something we LOVE, it makes us even happier! That's exactly what happened this past weekend!
We couldn't wait till the crowd of around 2000 people stood up and started dancing... LOL, which luckily for us happened halfway through the concert! We could then finally stand up and dance to all the songs we grew up with and it felt very good! Memories from home instantly came back and we couldn't avoid having huge smiles on our faces!
The entire night was great. From Sérgio Mendes, to all the musicians, singers and the guest rapper. The rapper, H20, appeared for many of the songs and fit very well with his melodic voice. We really enjoyed this mixture of Brazilian melodies and harmonies with American Rap and Hip Hop. This brought a lot of originality to all these Brazilian standards!
As you can see, we had a great time, which we'll remember forever! If anyone has the opportunity to go to this concert! Don't miss it! You'll definitely find some of our favorites Brazilian songs in it: "Só danço Samba - João Gilberto (you'll find a cover we made in our first album Choopeta)", "Berimbau - Vinícius de Moraes, Baden Powell, Ray Gilbert (we recorded an un-released version of this song written by the French songwriter / singer Claude Nougaro)", "Samba de uma nota só - João Gilberto", "Água de Beber - Vinícius de Moraes e Antônio Carlos Jobim (Tom Jobim)", "Magalenha - Carlinhos Brown (Carlito Marron)", and many many others!
If we had to give any critiques about the show, it would only be that the concert was a little too short. And we all left wishing for more!
So if you do decide to go, have fun! And if you can't make it, don't worry, that's what youtube is for! :D
Beijos!
